Applications of Foaming Microspheres in the PVC Industry
2025-06-06

Foaming microspheres (Expanding Microspheres) are microcapsule materials composed of a polymer shell encapsulating low-boiling-point hydrocarbons. When heated, their volume can expand dozens of times, forming a uniform closed-cell foam structure in PVC.

Key Applications

  1. Foamed PVC Profiles (doors, windows, decorative moldings): Improve surface smoothness, reduce density variations, and replace traditional AC foaming agents.

  2. Foamed PVC Sheets (advertising boards, partition panels): Reduce weight, enhance sound and thermal insulation, with more uniform cell structure.

  3. Foamed PVC Pipes (drainage pipes, insulated pipes): Reduce material usage, improve compressive strength, suitable for triple-layer co-extrusion processes.

  4. PVC Artificial Leather and Floor Mats: Provide softness and elasticity for automotive interiors, footwear, etc., with no residual odor.

  5. Other Applications: Foamed PVC injection-molded products (shoe soles, toys), foamed films (packaging materials), etc.

Advantages Over Traditional Foaming Agents

  • Finer cell structure, better mechanical properties

  • Stable processing, reduced mold contamination

  • Environmentally friendly, low VOC, compliant with RoHS standards

  • Low dosage (0.5%-5%), adjustable density

Future Trends

  • High-temperature-resistant microspheres (>220°C)

  • Functional microspheres (flame-retardant, conductive, etc.)

  • Bio-based or biodegradable eco-friendly microspheres

Foaming microspheres are widely used in the PVC industry, significantly enhancing product performance and serving as a key additive for lightweight, high-performance PVC products in the future.
